Baby Chrisitina Baby Christina is the first child you, as a Just Like My Child supporter, had a hand in saving. Christina’s mother died of sepsis during my very first night at the Bishop Asili Hospital in May, 2006. The screams of Christina’s grandmother echoing through the night as she watched her daughter breathe her last breath still haunt me. That is truly the night that Just Like My Child was born (although we officially incorporated in August, 2006.) The sisters at Bishop Asili Hospital had no resources to feed Christina. They only had glucose water to keep her from starving. Even as Just Like My Child was coming into existence, we sent funds to purchase baby formula, clothes, toys and medicines for the baby. Though the hospital is not an orphanage, the sisters took her in. As you can see, she’s doing pretty well, almost too well! We wonder if those pudgy thighs will stand in the way of her mastery of walking! But after seeing thousands of babies who do not have her same advantages, we are particularly grateful for her health. The clear whites of her eyes, dark, silky hair, juicy layer of fat, smooth complexion, are in sharp contrast to the children we see in the districts we serve in rural Uganda. We’ve come so far, so quickly, and of course we still have so far to go. But just for a night, we want to STOP and celebrate our first birthday with you. You are the heart of Just Like My Child and your contribution is already living forever in the eyes of babies like Christina and so many others. Vivian Glyck, Founder
